Barrie’s Everest Diary

Thursday29th October

Day one! Drive down to Heathrow without any problems. Queuing at the check in, the penny finally drops; I am on my own with no one to turn to. So I go for a coffee and cake and now £5 lighter.

The planes ok a Boeing 777 plenty of leg room but the food is bland. There’s no chance of a kip too many screeching kids.

With a change of planes in Delhi the clocks go forward 6 hours so now its Friday already.

VIKING CHALLENGE 50K

E-mail Print PDF

Hi just thought i would let you know about the Viking challenge which i completed on Sunday. The day started when i was picked up by my friend`s and taken to Nottingham where we had to sign in. Then we went to the start line and commenced in the 9.30am section. The start was miss leading as 2 mile into the race came the hills and the sweat..... after 10 mile`s there was a refreshment stop with cakes and hot and cold drinks. The next section of the course took you over a air field for 3 miles and the wind was intense. The next stop there was sandwiches and drinks and chocolate bars. The end could not come quick enough and cramp started to kick in on the last mile as i tried to pick up the pace but i made it in 3 house 22 minutes beating one of my friends by 10 minutes which I was pleased about as he is a regular up the chase 3 times a week. When he asked how I did it I replied ` easy I run for chase harriers` ha . In all it was a great day and look forward to next year.

Chris

additional: It sounds like you had a great time, thank you for sharing it with us. if you have any photos please email them to me.

Harriers 25th anniversary

E-mail Print PDF

Saturday the 12th September saw the club celebrating its 25th anniversary. Although the true date is in November it was thought we might be better a little early especially as we were having a hog roast. It proved to be a good decision as it was one of our few sunny evenings we have had this year. St Thomas Priory Golf club was a beautiful setting for the occasion so it was a bonus to spend some of it outside at this time of the year. It was lovely to see some of our members from the early years who were invited to help us celebrate this milestone in the clubs history. Yes there was a lot of reminiscing catching up with friends of old but also a little sad some could not make it through illness in particular Des Bill or who had other commitments (Wilf Marsden) and some who are no longer with us. My best bit was to meet the legend Ray Timms who along with Wilf were the reason why Chase Harriers exist. So OK the dance floor was not as busy with all this catching up but then again now we have got back in touch with old friends there is always our next celebration. For those that left early you missed a brilliant performance of an Irish jig you are ever likely to see. So until the next time cheers.

Barbeque

E-mail Print PDF

The annual Chase Harriers BBQ was a great success, great food, great music, singing, non competitive games ;-) and finally we had some fantastic weather.

I am known for liking my food, well I dont like any waste ;-) The BBQ was fantastic, I personally only had 3 burgers, a couple of hot dogs and a baked potato with chilli - im not a pig honest. Thanks must go to Steve, Bob, Tina and co for putting together a great BBQ. Yvonne's Bombay potatoes was delicious as always and thanks to Carolyne for the cake, yummy!

The entertainment was fanastic, if only I could sing like Keith, Alan, John or Derek I would be a happy guy. Think I could do a good impression of Barry White at the minute with my deep voice.

The rounders and football was fun. Starting off as a friendly game, think the rounders got a little competitive ;-) Lets just say thank god Rob 'The Monkey Man' Lloyd was able to retrieve the ball from the tree.

It was great to see Jeanette with Luke her little baby boy. Dont think anyone was getting broody (bad spelling) although I think Derek and Yvonne did not want to let go ;-)

Thanks again go to all involved in organising this events, I for one had a great time.

Please check out the BBQ Pictures.

Dont forget the Hog Roast on September 12th at St Thomas Priory Golf Club. Celebrating 25 years of Chase Harriers.

Cheers

David
