Shugborough Relays

Shugborough Relays

We (the family) arrived early and pitched the clubs new tent and as our runners arrived one came out with “crikey we’ve been booked into the O2 Arena” it will come in very handy at our club events.  Thanks to YOUNG CONTRACTING CO for donating that vital piece of equipment especially on some of our cold and wet winter events. We assembled for the team photo along with our new mascot Benson. I think our rivals are jealous a new tent and a gorgeous mascot. Check out the Gallery for additional photos.

Ok we did not win any trophies this year but the Shugborough relays were a resounding success for Chase Harriers once again. We again sent 9 teams and for the 1st time ever we did not have to get any of our men to run in more than one team. No such luck with our ladies with so many of our usual girls injured we had 2 of our girls run in 2 different teams. A big thank you to Caryn Shirley and Chrissy Bishop for that it’s always nice to finish our declared number of teams.

The one trophy  (men’s super vets)we thought we had a chance of didn’t happen as one of regular fast runners (Steve Loundes) ran with a nasty Achilles injury which he really shouldn’t have although he has promised to get it sorted before the cross country. Now that is what I call dedication. He was more than 2 minutes down on is usual pace.

Kevin was our fastest runner once again he did the 2 miles in 10 minutes 31 seconds. Our fastest lady (not sure of her exact time yet) was Chrissy Bishop I was surprised to hear her saying how nervous she was and Dave Rowlands reply was "yes I was last year but don’t worry it’s a great race just do your best" which is what she did.

Thanks again Harriers everyone seemed to enjoy themselves even Richard Soltysik who I never thought would do a race. Perhaps there’s a slight Chance of cross country Richard? I will put a link to results when we have them.

Adidas Thunder Run - ChaseBusters

You may be aware that Chase Harriers put a relay team together to do the Adidas 24 hour Thunder Run starting Saturday July 31st at 2pm, finishing at 2pm on the Sunday at Catton Park. It was an off road 10k event, which requires there to always be a member of the team on the route for 24 hours. The team with the greatest number of laps wins. We entered a team of 8:

David Hetherington, Neil Caswell, Yvonne Nicholls,
Bev Noble, Andy Noble, Martin Wallace, David Rowlands & Andy Soltysik

Daves H's Diary

I have been a bit lazy since we did the Adidas Thunder Run, I have not ran at all since, enjoying relaxing too much. I have been meaning to write this report ever since that day but I knew it would be a bit of an epic but I cannot put it off any longer, so here goes.....

Hoar Cross / Holly Prince Trust 10K - June 2010

What a super local race. Yvonne Nicholls, Neil Caswell & myself did this around the picturesque village of Hoar Cross.

The organiser of the race Lesley Prince, along with her husband, set up a charity called "The Holly Prince Trust", in memory of their daughter Holly who unfortunately died aged just six months old from an illness called Classic Zellweger. Syndrome. They are raising money to help research & raise awareness of this illness. All of the proceeds from the 10k run & Farmer's Market were going to this charity.

This brings everything into perspective, as to what may happen. I am lucky to have two healthy daughters.

Sutton 10k

Ok I thought this race was over priced (£14 before the day) so when Steve Bowman gave his number to Kevin I thought he should pass it on to someone else. Anyway with 4 of our runners doing the Edinburgh marathon and no one else seemed bothered especially with the very unusually hot weather Kevin thought it was a shame to waste the number.

So we turned up nice and early to change the details the organisers decided to it was easier to give Kevin a new number. Then dissaster I lost my car keys as I was on my bike (photographer for the day) I searched quicker than usual. Luckily I had left them in the door of the car and all the robbers must have been in bed.

We managed to find Chrissy Bishop before the start (it was her fault Kev was doing the race) So I took a few photo's before they lined up for the start and a took off planning to take pics on various parts of the course. Within the 1st K kevin was 50 metres up Chrissy i'm sure she was 1st or 2nd female.

Anyway I managed to get to various locations on the course each time Kevin was farther in front and each time Chrissy had a bigger smile. She never seems to suffer always a smile.

I even managed to take a photo as they both crossed the line and yes Kevin was easily 1st overall and Chrissy was 1st lady was she exited and had an even bigger smile. Am I glad Kevin does not always listen to his dad. Well done to you both.

London Marathon 2010

Not exactly a newbie now but I still find a massive thrill running the capital in a skimpy Tarzan outfit. I honestly cannot describe the feeling when working the crowd and being rewarded with a collective, powerful, roaring cheer. It also helps to take away the constant thought of the pain of running and the distance remaining.

This was my 5th run and still I never know where I am, to me the race is about the crowd and not the sights. The forcast promised a very warm,  humid day but fortunately it didn't seem to materialise that way. Still too warm for me but at least some occasional rain and semi-cooling wind. In anticipation I added a sachet of Dioralyte to my pre-race drink to  attempt to stave off sweat induced cramp.
